I cheered, when it looked like one of our heroes had been fatally wounded. I am a bad person. That way his poor little heart would have been at peace, so really, I care. See? :p
Oh the cheesiness, I can't take it anymore! Reads exactly like a bodice ripper. Or what I imagine one to read like, since I avoid that genre.
The only cool thing is the villain offing himself by running into the Captain's sword.

Whoever is Bracey-- ooh, I mean Drinkwater, of course, keeping that ridiculosly elaborate log for? love how he notes that absolutely nothing has happened, or that they didn't do what they expected to do. Put that into your private journal not into the offical logs! Or your captain is going be very embarrassed for you when he gets back.
Meanwhile, our heroes are beginning to annoy me. Stop talking!

Well done, pirates. It's not like any hero ever gained an advantage from being locked in a tool shed.

Oh.
Worst pirates ever.
Also, dear book, middies did not have dress uniforms in the 1790's. And a fifth rate would only have had three lieutenants.

I wouldn’t have left him alone with a sheep
It's not a proper AoS novel, unless ... ah, well. You know the drill...
Excuse me, but how is this not thinly disguised tv-Hornblower fanfiction? The similarities are distracting!
And it would explain why I love their captain so friggin' much. Best character. Period.

"Captain’s pride in his own abundant mane, still glossy brown"
he's a horse?
"the drawbacks of command: it meant training one’s officers up until they could be trusted with one’s life—and more importantly, one’s ship—and as soon as they reached that point, in all fairness one had to nominate them for promotion to independent command"
Always hard for Captain Dad to watch the chicks leave the nest. d'aww!
