Absolutely was not sure what to expect with this book (free online), but so far this is a wonderful historic read. These emancipated slaves have so much human dignity, and it helps to read the dialect so that you can 'hear' their voices.

I'm sure their lives were more complicated/dreadful than the few pages their short narratives can contain, but what a wonder that these words were saved.
