By age 24, Edison had gained a reputation as a top-notch telegrapher and had begun his transformation from operator to inventor, with most of the notoriety coming from improvements on others' ideas and not necessarily original creations. Interestingly, he had also gained a reputation at this young age of having questionable ethics in dealing with partners and investors.
