I'm so lost. The whole conversation with Pastor Bob, and Jack still says "he knew better" than to shoot?
If the point of this book is sometimes killing is "OK" but there's a better choice... this is a poor way to portray it.
Also, would've been nice if Jack had an eternal struggle about his pacifism before the halfway point of the novel, me thinks... If he knew his pastor before, why not remember his words before?

See, without logic, though, you try to protect your sister because women shouldn't go to battle (let's avoid this fact was more of Jack believing so for his religion, not because we saw him blatantly caring about his sister's safety...?) BUT it is OK to quote Scripture as another women is almost being killed without trying to protect her... HmMMM. JACK.
