Can anyone tell me why my user name has an asterisk by it, and when I try to update my profile information, I get invalid username? Also, mad props to GR for closing the Feedback group, where we could quickly search and ask questions! Good job there! (I've tried validating my email, which also has an asterisk by it, but there's no place to click to send validation email)

Have you tried the tips group? It was started by some of the old Feedback group members.https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
I'll look, thanks! The asterisk is there when I go to edit my account settings, first name (which obviously, isn't my real first name) and also by my email address, but it says verified, so I dunno.

Yeah, when I looked there mine has that too, exactly like that.
Can you change, like, anything? I tried to add something to the about me section, I tried to change my first name/username, I tried to update my email address, and nothing sticks. Anything I try to change, on the profile tab, or on the settings tab, causes a red box to pop up, that says "1 error prohibited this profile from being saved:
User name is invalid"
The asterisk is only there to indicate that this is a required field, i.e. it can't be empty. The form is prevented from being sent when either a required field is empty or when there is i.e. an error in the e-mail adress.Another thing that might be validated is your user name (not first name and not display name). Make sure that you use only the letters a-z. Numbers should be okay though I'm not quite sure about that but special characters like %, & or ? are likely to cause trouble. This is because the user name is used for the URL that leads to your profile like so https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/7.... The number in this case is added by GR to make the URL unique.
If that's not the problem, try a different browser. Sometimes there are javascript problems that occur only in certain browsers.

Completely agree about the Feedback group! At the very least they could have left what was there as an archive.
