I'm in! Though Rebecca is still fresh enough in my memory from a few months ago that I think I'll probably just re-read My Cousin Rachel now (and still discuss them both, obviously).

that makes a lot of sense -- remind me if you watched the hitchcock film when you read the book, or not? i was toying with the idea of a synchronized film viewing... of course i got crazy excited about the idea once i found out that there's actually a 1952 film of my cousin rachel as well that stars olivia de havilland! which seemed to play in to my whole comparative read idea, and i can't help but wonder if they cast de havilland because fontaine was in rebecca. probably not, and since i have never seen the film or heard of it until now, i suspect it's probably terrible. but! i thought it would be fun to do after reading the book(s). :)
There's a My Cousin Rachel film starring Olivia de Havilland?!? That BLOWS MY MIND!!! I tried to watch the film version of Jamaica Inn with Maureen (GODDESS) O'Hara and it is TERRIBLE. I would love to reread both these books. I'll try to join in! But I can make no promises. I'm currently reading a 700 page biography of the Smiths and I'm only 250 pages in!
I've not seen either of these movies, but will probably get around to watching at least one of them this year now that all my display drivers are working again (except fullscreen, for some reason: bah).Unrelatedly: I have a vague memory of watching a movie version of the scene in Jamaica Inn in which Our Heroine discovers the priest's sinister caricature - only I couldn't possibly, because the only film adaptation of the story missed out that whole subplot entirely. I'm pretty distrustful of all my childhood memories now.
kerry! join us if you can -- i can't imagine reading a 750-page book about the smiths straight through but maybe it is more rip-roaing than other long books. i mean, i'm liking proust but i can't really read it on the subway so it's only getting read when i'm home...to both:
i am trying to download the my cousin rachel movie as we speak -- i don't know if i will actually get it in the end or if this just me destroying my computer but i guess we'll see. apparently it was richard burton's first american film...? i am now hoping for good things instead of awful one!
i've never seen jamaica inn despite my love for charles laughton so i can't confirm or deny for you, bri, and it looks like kerry (above) didn't stick with it for very long..
Jacob! You are never going to finish writing "The Ladies of the Stake" if you keep joining more group reads!
hurray! it's going to be fun to read these books with you! :)so the date is okay for everybody? i'm taking the birthday reading seriously, as you can see. :P

My "And Ladies of the Stake..." project pre-dates our du Maurier date by several months...but I'm too lazy to actually write it, so du Maurier comes first.
Twss.

i thought i had already invited you, moira! of course you can join in. so far it is me, jacob, bri, elizabeth, and you. i will probably check in with jessica treat since i know she's got a thread on the completist club about du maurier....
