1.) Bears have certain trees that they designate as "bear trees," meaning that they go to those trees to leave markings for other bears.
2.) Bears mark the bear trees and other communal bear areas in a variety of ways, including rubbing their backs and body against the tree or surface, peeing on it, gouging into it with their teeth and claws, and doing an odd stiff-legged walk

Nothing has really happened in “Among the Bears” so far. In the preface, Ben Kilham talked about his early life, in which animals were always present. His mom and dad would find injured or orphaned animals and nurse them back to health.
