I can hardly put this book down. I don't want this to end. I am in awe that this book has received such a low rating! I find it to be such a thoroughly rich novel with rich characters like Deskahah and Madame Rouillard. It is simply a raw story exhibiting a reality we can only imagine! Any book that can make me want to enter the story and live as the protagonist has won me over for eternity!

Wow! There may be some flaws in character development but I find myself more intrigued by the first settlements of Quebec; how they lived; how Canada came to be what it is today. Nothing is as it once was. Natives forced to evolve into the people they are today. Huts turned into towns turned into cities turned into NOW. An excellent peek into a glass ball taking you into the past.

very good read so far. although still early in the book I still feel that this will be a GOOD READ. just love the setting for the book, the period in history and the culture of Paris in the 1600's.
