Just hit this passage in the book, or rather, it hit me.
“Before children your life was quiet. Then your wife insisted on a family, and you went along for the ride. When they were little they were noisy, bright, hilarious. Where has their sense of humor gone? Why do they ignore your anecdotes and roll their eyes at your jokes? There must have been a first time but you missed it.”
