The writing's fine, but it never shifts out of second gear. High action, emotional struggle, mystery--they all feel the same.

And why and I reading about a family drama and angst over someone's dead sister in a book based on an RPG? Especially an RPG about high weirdness? Did RDL have some issues he wanted to work out, and shoved them into the closest manuscript he had going?
