I stayed because I thought things would get better, or at least not worse. I stayed because I wanted my son to have a father and I wanted a home. For a long time I stayed because I loved Bobby Benedetto, because no one had ever gotten to me the way he did. I think he knew that.

I could tell that he thought if he was good enough I'd take him home. Maybe that's why he'd always been so quiet and clean as a kid. Maybe he figured if he was good enough his father wouldn't hit me anymore... This line tugged at my tear ducts... *sniffs*
