I was reading this last night and I could not put this down. I was expecting this to be a straight biography but Jun Cruz Reyes put a spin to its format. He talks directly to Amado V. Hernandez and shares his own experiences to Hernandez. Is he trying to create another genre of literature? Maybe a sub-genre of biography and memoirs? Strange but brilliant!

Now I have to read "Isang Dipang Langit" because this was a poem that was written by Amado V. Hernandez in prison for political reason. His love story with Atang de la Rama should be turned into a film. Beautiful story. Thank you to Jun Cruz Reyes for making this very interesting. Cinematic.

I have to admit that I enjoyed reading about Atang de la Rama more than reading about Ka Amado hahaha. Atang de la Rama was the queen of Philippine showbiz during the 20's up to the 40's before Amalia-Susan, Nora-Vilma, Maricel-Snooky. Unparalled in the history. Her rival? Kathy de la Cruz, the queen of Jazz during the American "Commonwealth" period. Balut, penoy, balut!

I am now in this chapter about Atang de la Rama, the famous bodabil queen. I am enjoying this book. Kudos to Jun Cruz Reyes for writing this book. He just immortalize Amado V. Hernandez with his beautiful deathless prose.

The topic goes rightly back to Amado Hernandez's life. So he grew up with his aunt and there was no mention of his parents. But he was a naughty (normal according to Reyes) boy.

This seems not to be totally focused on Amado Hernandez. It even traces the lineages of the other Hagunoy authors since the pre-Spanish times. Nice but it sometimes put me to sleep.

This is definitely not a usual boring biography. I did not know that a book about Amado V. Hernandez could be as entertaining as this. Thanks to Jun Cruz Reyes. Very good so far.
