Day just got on the loud speakers in the Capitol and told everyone everything about the Republic and what he had to face. He says he sides with the Elector and now the people do too. Kaede died when the plane crashed a stray bullet hit her. Anden keeps staring at Day while he gives his speech.

All of the soldiers they see are going to June's room because they found out that June is a Republic solider. They cuff her but she gets out and fights some of them, but just then Day gets in and fights them off with Kaede. They get-in a jet and are going to Denver to get Eden.

Day learns that Anden released Eden from the Warfront but he also learns that all of the people with Edens condition have been released. Razor was not helping the Patriots but he was helping the Republic try to kill their own Elector. Anden is good but the Republic is still bad.

June is in the hospital and in her dream state she realizes that the Patriots aren't working with the Colonies but the Republic hired Razor to kill Anden. Day sees June and a brunch of locals crowded around the balcony of the hospital room and in those locals is Kaede. Kaede ask to talk to Day in private so Day sneaks out and goes to talk to her.

The soldiers took June and Day to a colonies hospital because they know that Day is the Republic rebel but they don't know that he botched the assassination. They also are very nervous around Day because of the fact that he is the rebel. They also don't know that June is the Republics prodigy.

June and Day get into the colonies and it is beautiful, with lights and colors and ads everywhere. June and Day notice there are a bunch of military barracks and TV shows and movies. Movies are only showed in the rich sector in the Republic and there are a bunch of ads to get you to buy stuff in the colonies. The Colonies are like our United States and the Republic is a restricted version of that.

June teaches Day how to fight hoping it will dull down the argument they had. June gets a really bad fever so Day takes her to a bed and lies her down. Day hears people approaching the tunnel so he picks up June and some food and water and leaves the bunker.

Day and June follow the line to hopefully find the colonies. June and Day kinda just gloss over the fact they just had a huge argument. They argued about how June probably just liked the Elector and that is why she saved him.

In this portion of the book Day and June have a big argument about how June still is loyal to the Republic despite what they've done and how she doesn't know what it is like to be poor and scrounge for food in the trash just to feed your family. June figures out the the cables in the shelter go to somewhere else so they figure the electricity to power the bunker is coming from the Colonies so they plan to follow it.

Day and June go down a abandoned tunnel and find a old room that belonged to the Patriots. There is no one in it but they find some food and water. June tells Day that Eden will be released but he doesn't believe him about the Elector being a good person or wanting to be friends with the public.
