I’m really only reading chapters of this book here and there - it’s a Gutenberg freebie- the prose is wonderful - I think English was still at its peak when Jefferies was writing - wonderful rhythm, clarity, diction full of local words for geography like bourne and fosse.
I’m guided by WG Sebald who took his models in prose from 19th German writers - I wondered if that worked in English
