I ordered this 3-volume, million-word, 18-pound history of the space shuttle... and it's awesome so far. Super detailed, really an engineering and technical history, not a people-focused history.
Volume One, "Setting the Stage" complete - history of spaceplanes, shuttle program, early development, major design history and iterations, etc. An encyclopedia written by one man with a 30+ year involvement with Shuttle.

Finished Volume II, "Technical Description". Volume I covered the path to the ultimate design and II covered the ultimate design in incredible detail. Not going to lie, I did a fair amount of skimming in this volume. The vehicle itself is really cool but I was less interested in 100 pages on the external tank & solid boosters.
