Finished two excellent essays this afternoon. Deborah Rogers “Everyclod and Everyhero: The Image of Man in Tolkien” and Richard West’s “The Interlace Structure of The Lord of the Rings”. Notes from both essays provided even more essays that will probably be difficult to obtain outside of academic circles.

Finished IV. The Fairy-tale Morality of The Lord of the Rings by Walter Scheps

Finished ‘The Psychological Journey of Bilbo Baggins ‘ by Dorothy Matthews. I agree with the editor and am unsympathetic to Matthews approach. I need to find CSL’s essay ‘Psychoanalysis and Literary Criticism ‘ in Selected Literary Essays as the alternative.
