In place of it all there floated some purple mass, water weeds swayed in it and began moving off somewhere, and Pilate himself began moving with them. He was carried along now, smothered and burned, by the most terrible wrath—the wrath of impotence.

“Unfortunately, I can’t do that,” replied the Master, “because I burned it in the stove.”

“Forgive me, but I don’t believe you,” said Woland. “That can’t be. Manuscripts don’t burn.”

Mark André A very cool book.

I did not feel that strong about the book when I started, but really like it now.

Mark André That’s cool! Though I admit to be confused as to who was who and what was going on, the opening scene where Woland congealed out of thin air was enough for me.

Nocturnalux It's delightfully weird.

I find myself going back and forth for who was who too. :D
I revisited the scene
And just as Mikhail Alexandrovich was telling the poet how the Aztecs had modeled figures of Uitzilopochtli out of dough, the first man appeared on the pathway.

One thing I really like about this novel is that it is so imaginative and yet so convincing. Nothing reads contrived.

Really funny too.

Mark André Actually, I was thinking of the description on the previous page.

And then the hot air congealed in front of him, and out of it materialized a transparent man of most bizarre appearance.

I had forgotten the one you quoted. Your’s is Woland himself. Mine is one of his sidekicks.
I agree. It’s very imaginative, pure fantasy, and yet it reads in a most realistic way. It gets better! It is an exception book.
