Something in Rebecca's story reminds me of an old Harry Chapin song (Story-song) that is sad, but sweet (and I knew it complete when I wore a younger man's clothes). Yeah, I know, that last part was parenthetically Billy Joel. Here's a link to the Harry chapen song.

Wow, I just finished this book, and "WHAT A FINISH." Great story! I loved the healing themes and the spiritual connections between characters.
Great story. Well told. Review pending.

It's getting exciting now. And, I just have to say "Well DONE!" I'm really enjoing the story.
It's not one of those action packed cop, crime books, I'd call this a crime drama, but only because it's not a comedy, nor an action crime story or even a police procedural.
I'm finding the healing theme running through it is wonderul and, I love the message, "Never choose to be alone." It's well written.

I like the guilt dump and doing a soul ceaning for Jack. He is very sad and he needed it. I also like the sense that Jack and Elizabeth have a spiritual connection in some way. I wonder what Jack's "Florence Nightingale" girl friend, Kate, will think of Elizabeth. There is a them of "escaping life" like the title that is very neatly woven into the plot right down to Jack's dalliance for 40 Quid a night.

Okay, had some hitches getting time to read this weekend, but, now that I'm back at it, I'm finding this a delightfully wonderful story.
I like "getting to know" the characters a bit. There is sort of an interconnected spirituality at play, kharma perhaps. The mystery is just now emerging so we can understand the question. Wonderful human details.
I love the lead inspector. He's complex. A plus for me.

Love the haunting first person-present tense prologue. I like the lyrical prose too. Anyone can go noun, verb, object, shoot.
I'm not deep enough into it yet to know what's going on, and, not being from the U.K. I'm getting a wonderful rare glimpse at village life in small down England.
