Something comes in. 5. Something about these stories drags one in. A nasty specimen of haunting here as it turns out - chilling all along with great originality. 17.5/4

Wailing Waif. 4. Good ghostly yarn. Nothing stunning but good ideas and back to the classic RCH mix of fun, humour and menace. Never too keen to encounter a psychic detective story, much less a series, but this one works well 34.5/9

No need for words. 2.5. Didn’t see the point of this, did nothing for me. Moderately interesting moment of revelation is all. But no sign of the usual wit of RCH or of a particularly interesting story. 30.5/8

Building site MS. 3. Interesting enough and a bit of a time slip twist but lacks the wider imagination of some of the other tales. 28/7

Xmas Eve. 4. Unsettling, atmospheric and lucid. And mysterious. 25/6

Man who stayed behind. 3.5. RCH has the ability to make the ridiculous seem palatable. Not terrifying but amusing and well crafted. 21/5

Danger in numbers. 3.5. Imaginative fun with multiple revenants. 12.5/3

Limping Ghost. 5. Even if you know what's coming - and I'm not sure I did, though it is obvious, really - this is a superbly written story, capturing the essence of teenage ennui, and the final revelation has a ghastly edge. 9/2

Ghouls. 4. I’d forgotten how entertaining RCH is. Very 70s of course and not for delicate millennial sensibilities. Not subtle but great fun and an interesting idea for those industrially troubled mid 70s. 4/1
