While I prefer the earlier idylls for their poetry, these later ones offer an interesting slice of life viewpoint. "The Women at the Adonis Festival" is humorous and everyday.

You’ll make me tear in pieces the ivy-wreath I have for you, dear Amaryllis; of rosebuds twined it is, and of fragrant parsley leaves . . .
