How absolutely frustrating trying to import books into a newly opened LibraryThing account. All I end up with is an excel file and when I try 'select file to import' and click on my saved excel file, then select 'upload file' it merely tells me 'there are no books in your file'. Which there are - in the excel doc at least. I actually thought this might be fun - an alternative cataloging system, but not working! Help?

Kris I'm about to get some sleep, but here are some fast things to try.

First, did you get the excel file by going to http://www.librarything.com/import.php and clicking on the GR link ("Have a Goodreads account? Go here.") and then following the directions? Or did you export from GR and then go to http://www.librarything.com/import.php and upload your file? If you did the latter, try the first approach instead -- it worked really well for me, whereas earlier I had tried approach #2 and got the same error message you got.

Also, LT reads files in the CSV formal, so make sure you don't have an Excel file saved in a different format.

If none of this info helps, I'll send other ideas tomorrow.

Zen Thanks for your pre-sleep help Kris. You'll be glad to know that I managed it in the end (I've posted elsewhere about this, so you may read again!). It was all down to the csv format. I knew it had to be in that, but didn't realise that the excel doc wasn't saving that way. Cheers for replying :)

Kalliope Zenmoon, can you please post your profile in LT?.. it is easier this way than looking for you over there.

Mine is:

Zen Sure thing - as with Kris, I've sent you a request within LT.

Got it. Thank you.

I hate LT... Tried exporting my Library today but LT was picking up only 2 books.. will try again later on in the week.

Zen I have to agree - its a poor second to GR, with a really clunky interface. One of the other things I found is that it's not very conducive to smooth navigation. Perhaps a larger population will help it improve.
