This one had the least amount of push-pull angst between the romantic leads (once Aiden got over being a jerk struggling with everything on his own), but it also felt like it had too much going on at times: the financial struggle, Aiden’s dad’s gambling addiction, the mom recovering from a breakdown, all of Evan’s secrets, Evan and Aiden both still closeted to their mom, the birth dad, etc etc

I came to really like Marco and Ben, but I didn’t feel quite the same pull I felt with Theo and Morgan (if their book wasn’t so damn depressing and oddly paced it would be my favorite). Or at least, I didn’t feel that way about Aiden until Marco started having his own troubles and Aiden had to rise to the occasion for him, instead of the other way around. They take care of each other so well by the end

I’m really enjoying this author’s books— even if they are slowly torturing me with hurt/comfort —but her endings are killing me. So much is left until the end that things just feel abrupt. I don’t get why meeting his birth dad would be the last scene? It was not the largest plot point of the book, nor his biggest worry. Glad Marco and Evan were with him, but I needed another scene with just Aiden and Marco.

So glad that Aiden finally dropped everything and flew to Italy to be with Marco while his mom recovered. Aiden does so much for his family, but Marco does so much for Aiden that I was feeling that their relationship give-and-take was far too lopsided

Me, starting this book: Aiden is a cranky angsty jerk, but at least this will be more comfort and less hurt than After Ben
This book: PAIN NOTHING BUT PAIN. Marco brings some comfort though. Speaking of Marco, here’s a side of pain for him too.
Me, at the 85% mark: 😭😭😭😭

Marco’s sigh was lengthy. “Watching you go through this on your own is like a form of torture. I wish I could be with you, tesoro.” “Me too.”
Aiden reached out and touched his laptop screen, feeling the exact same way about watching Marco deal with his mother’s illness. “Me too.”

“Yeah. Do you know what it means?” It suddenly seemed really important that he know what Marco had been thinking as he’d flown away.
Theo’s voice was low, his tone choked as he translated for Aiden.
“Mi manchi già means ‘I miss you already,’ and Non potrei amarti di più means ‘I could not love you more.’”
😭❤️

Oh god I was just thinking how this book has been kind of been one-sided, delving into Aidan’s issues and Marco’s support of him, without giving us much into Marco’s issues. He’ll be gutted if something happens to his mom, let her not answering her phone be a fluke 😭

He looked again at Marco.
Perhaps he could have a normal life now, average and ordinary, with someone special just for him.
That had seemed an impossibility for almost his entire adult life.
Inside Aiden, something slowly shifted into alignment, leaving him feeling less hollow, making his heart race.

They sat like that until they heard Paul’s voice call out. Marco pressed their foreheads together, and then gave him a kiss. He asked, “Are you ready, baby?” and Aiden shook his head.
No way was he ready. He wanted to run away. He felt that very strongly, like when he’d found out about his dad’s financial mess. Only now he wanted to take Marco with him.
