Why do you think rich men buy the
instruments of famous musicians

and put them behind glass instead of playing them?
To protect a valuable object? Do you see their
families in cases? Their egos? Their legacies?

.
They buy the instrument, hoping it will give
them the life they wish they had chosen,

only to find they cannot hold it.

And this is where I started crying because earlier tonight, I was thinking of a friend who killed himself a month ago.

"If I could travel through time, I would go back
to the moment before it was too late.
Right before you wrote a suicide note that started

Dear Jared:
I’m doing this now because I know you will be the one to
find me. Of all of my friends, I think you’re the one who’s
strong enough to take it.

What made you think I was strong enough to take this?"

On moving on after a loved one's suicide:

You can’t get over someone,
but you can take a shower
and then you can get dressed
and then you can do your laundry
and then you can find your keys
and then you can go grocery shopping
and then it’s ten years later
and they are still dead

and you are happy.
