The Tughluqs, the Sayyids, & the Lodis; the Muslim rulers of Delhi before the coming of Babur. Each sought endorsement from outside of the Indian subcontinent to legitimize their rule but not within. At this stage of reading, it is unclear whether it sets the stage for the same for the Mughals or merely an oversight partly out of hubris.
