My bad, they are already lovers. But also why do we care about the guy that died? We don't, and neither does she. She's just bringing up her (apparently dead from cancer) mom to compare the dead guy to someone. Still don't like anyone.

Terrible terrible book. I can't stand the main, and lo I just met her love interest and he's obviously a hunky cop that's suspicious of her. I hate the talking animals, too. This is not a book for me. And I'm only on page 31. This is very slow going.
