The author is not a historian but deals with historical events, taking, I believe, a short view of history and thus perpetuating misconceptions about the supposedly long-entrenched nature of ethnic and religious 'hatreds' - which did not characterize earlier centuries (according to other historians) but result from an adaptation of Western European nationalism. That said, I've just read about Croatia so far.
