I found the ending to be quite disappointing because Jack gave himself up to the VIGIL after staying away from them for the purpose/mission that was aimed at for more than 9/10 of the book, which lead them to slowly realize how things were supposed to be; History is never meant to be changed, it will only cause havoc, trouble and DEADLY consequences.

Jack and his half German friend goes on an adventure after escaping the clutches of VIGIL through the time machine. However they're being chased, along the way, Jack brought a professor of that time, helping them as they proceed on a mission to save many lives that will be killed if one man dies: Franz Ferdinand.
