So far, it reads a bit like the author thought about what annoyed her about Amber ("the family are all at one another's throats, and nobody cares about the mother(s), and the sisters are ciphers") and changed that, but otherwise wrote a pretty decent Amber story.

I'm not saying that as a bad thing.
