Yay!
Yeah it's going pretty well. I thought I was going to struggle as I've been out of the fantasy genre for so long! But it's been so easy to fall back in. The only thing about it I don't like is Vin. She is infuriating.
How are you finding it?

That's good to hear. Plus I think it might also help how Sanderson's writing style is super accessible! :D
Yikes! You dont like Vin? Why? :P
I happen to like her. But Kelsier is bae! :D

Kelsier is certainly bae. But Vin... She makes me roll my eyes like no other. She's such a convenient character to me. Haha I'm getting hard to please I think.

I think I can get behind Vin most of the times but not when she's with Elend, you know?
The way that this is such an obvious romance is nothing something that sits well with me.
Also, is it just me or is there a definite YA-ish feel to this book?

Exactly why I don't like Vin. She's meant to not trust anyone and be cool and calm, Elend walks in and instalove? No thank you.
It definitely feels a bit YA to me too. Like it tries to be adult with some minor gore and themes but I think I've read YA darker?
I'm not impressed, needless to say.

I think we're on the same page then. Bcz while the magic system is very cool, some twists and surprises are obviously up Sanderson's sleeve yet, his writing style is nice and good but still I dont see the crazy hype, you know?
Also, there is a definite YA feel that has persisted through all his works that I have read so far. And I am now worried if this improves in his SLA or not bcz I was looking forward to that series.
And may I ask which darker YA are you referring to? I'd like to check them out too, if I can.

Thats like me, was saving SLA because I thought id love it and now Im wondering whether to bother or not. I feel like maybe if I hadn't read much fantasy then I would be more impressed? But as it stands im getting more and more dissapointed in this book the more I think on it.
As for dark YA. Its been a long while since I really read YA but I remember Libba Bray's The Diviners being pretty dark and it creeped me out quite a bit (though it really has been a long time since I read it). And The Queens Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner. That is probably my favourite YA series to be honest, its pretty dark but it also is one of the few series that had twists I didn't see coming and actually shocked me.

How's it going for you?
