I now remember why DAW's mid-90s brick-thick books went out of fashion. This one is intriguing and full of excellent little character moments, but the pace is so slow. Or perhaps the problem is that have no idea what most of the POV characters' goals are, which means that their actions have no context and thus hold little weight. I slog onward.
