Very smart use of amnesia. H is beta. He's basically a perfect rom-com boyfriend. Meet-cute has BIG rom-com energy. Amnesia is a way for him to be more of an alpha jerk throughout most of the story without him needing too much redemption at the end. Also smart that h did not complain about OW until just b4 accident so he wasn't big a huge jerk for a long time. Biggest issue pre-amnesia was his frequent traveling.
