Neahl nodded. “I told you,” he said. “Fear is your best weapon. By making them fear us, we will have to kill less of them, and they will be more cautious how they approach us. Their fear increases our chances of surviving.”
Neahl smiled at her. “You let your fear drive you, but not control you. Panic is your worst enemy.”

Emyr shrugged. “My adopted father taught me to accept what you can’t control and to face what you can’t avoid.”
“Sounds like good advice.”
Emyr smiled. “Then he said, ‘If the odds are against you, live to fight another day.’” Brion grinned. “So in other words, when you have to face someone you know you can’t beat, it’s best to scamper away like a deer and get the heck out of there.”

Redmond approached Brion. “I can’t do it, Brion. Not again. I can’t leave him to die.”

The first chapter takes hold of you.... And you simply cannot withstand it's hold.
