King Charles II went to Scotland to get back his throne. He found the lords cold and uninviting. In England he hoped to build an army but it fell apart quickly. Trapped by Cromwell he ended up getting into Wales and hiding all day and night in an oak tree while Cromwell's army passed. Now called The Royal Oak.

Charles II was the son of Charles I who had not gotten along with the British and had his head chopped off. His mother Henrietta, was French and Catholic and she was not allowed to raise him lest she teach him her religion. She became close to her other children.
