Jay Cole I'm looking forward to reading your review on this one.

This fellow's journey seems somewhat reminiscent of that old reality show that had people eat disgusting things. I never watched nor understood that show either.

Fugu? According to the Ministry of Health, even today half of all food poisoning deaths in Japan come from eating blowfish. One study showed that fugu poisoning has a 21% mortality rate. Astronauts on a launch pad, sitting atop almost two million pounds of high explosive fuel, have better survival odds.

I admit, I'm at a loss trying to find the humor in eating dangerous or offensive food?

A journal of my food journey would tend more toward lasagna with a nice Chianti… Prime rib with a touch of horseradish sauce, baked potato and freshly steamed green beans… Lobster Thermidor with a little jasmine rice... What the hell, peanut butter and jelly!

If I really need to offend myself at mealtime, I don't need to eat disgusting food, I'll just turn on FOX "News".

Hello Jay - I'm with you on this one! Under NO circumstances would I eat anything like fugu. I just don't see the allure in trying something that might kill me.

I'm on the first chapter - it's about a particular type of eel where the risky part is trying to get them out of the water without being clubbed by one of your competitors (they're worth a ton of money and are getting harder to find). So it isn't all about foods that can kill you - apparently, harvesting some of this stuff is risky, too.

I'll let you know if this book changes how I eat (not too likely, though!)
