Home working is great but it's killing my reading. I've lost nearly two hours of ringfenced book time a day!

Are you actually doing more hours, or is the time taken up with kids and chores?

I’m getting way more done! I never realized how unproductive offices are. Today I got all my work done, plus put up two pictures and fixed a broken bed, then made bolognese.
Offices are virtually designed to be unproductive. Particularly modern offices - iirc, open-plan offices are something like 30-40% less productive on average, for most jobs, than old-style office-based offices (though they're good for creative industries, apparently, where constantly overhearing people chatting is apparently productive).
There are jobs that I literally cannot imagine how people manage to accomplish in an open-plan office. Like mine! Editing and writing are nearly impossible for me if people are talking to or around me. I can sort of do low-intellect things like marketing text, but much less efficiently than if I were alone. The only issue I have with working from home is people feeling that they can impinge on my time with their "needs" (i.e. desires).
I’m almost the opposite – I’m used to newsrooms where it’s all chat and TV screens blaring. I find it hard to write in a regular office where everyone’s being quiet.
I'm fine with a fairly loud level of noise as long as it isn't directed at me. Like, a coffee shop with babbly and loud music is fine, but if there's a person leading Bible study at the next table that's distracting.
