The protagonist is being created? to somehow be able to fight an alien force which is going to destroy earth. Humans have lost the ability to fight, although they have inadequate ships in the asteroid belt!?!?!?!

I almost quit there. But it is interesting to see him in a recognizable Australia learning about himself, gradually remembering his soldier past.

Is this enough to get me past the flaws?
