"Traditionally in Japan, we do not have many plazas or public spaces except for the gardens of temples or shrines. During the 60s and the 70s there were many movements in Japan protesting against defence treaties, and the national authorities dismembered plazas and open spaces..If there are no public spaces, opinion is suppressed and people are made into robots whose only purpose is to work."
