The protagonist is quirky and nearly-loveable but comes out of obscurity very very slowly. I am being patient and the plot is growing in momentum as a reward, but only vaguely in the background with the vivid depictions of the characters, the landscape and the horoscopes, the poems and the beetles in the foreground of the writing. I’m intrigued - I had thoughts of giving up, but not now.
