Tartt excels in crisp, vivid imagery and tying that to the narrator's experience and even their psychology... but, oof the cussing. I mean, she is definitely capturing an essence of something here. It's just so dark and sad. "The universe is random and fate is just chance" kinda thing. Not quite reached meaninglessness yet. But it's pretty bleak. I can see why I DNF'd this a while back. Gotta be in the right mood.
