Help me, Jesus, get through the last 60 pages of this book. It’s dry as a bone but like a dog I just keep gnawing! It’s a goal and a chore but thank heavens I am just too curious to see how he winds up his life on this earth. W.W. Phelps’s teaching and writing style is pretty dogmatic, speaking of dogs, but he just couldn’t stop himself. This book is heavy on historical documentation and light on...pictures?

Phew. Waded through Phelps’ tough times in Missouri (Far West) and life on the church outskirts in Dayton, Ohio. He has received fellowship again with Joseph Smith and the Church and reading the letters exchanged was cool.

Not gonna lie. It’s dry. But I can’t help but feel that every time I go through early church history I may actually at some point be able to get all the times, places and dates straight. I’m getting better with the rough outlines of things and adding new places to learn up on but I thought this would be SO much more interesting to read than it is.

I’m crawling through this . It’s concentrated and pretty dry historical narrative, but each time I read through church history from a different perspective my understanding gets richer and I get a better grasp on the timelines.
