From this point forward I will no longer be giving books I read a star rating! I never felt that they were truly representative of my actual feelings. Also, I saw that many people were driven away from reading a book if I gave it 3 stars or lower even if I didn't actually hate it.
I'm sorry if this causes any confusion or makes it more difficult for you to find recommendations from what I read. But I feel FREE!

Raina I really like that idea! I always feel like the rating I give books isn’t true to how I feel about the book, but I feel pressured to rate it a certain way.

message 2: by Linn (new)

Linn J I recently started to rate my books, only in the perspective of my feeling that I recieved from the reading. But I totally understand the pressure that you may feel. Rating is hard and when it feels like a responsibily, the reading experience changes.

message 3: by Eline (new)

Eline I think this is a good idea! Rating books is fine as long as you’re enjoying it. There shouldn’t be pressure to write or give your opinion on a book If you don’t want to

message 4: by YinYangReader (new)

YinYangReader I wish Goodreads gave a half star rating option because I always feel like rounding up or down doesn’t reflect how I feel. Totally cool you decided to stop all together. :)

message 5: by Ariz (new)

Ariz I feel like the way I rate changes way too often for it to be an accurate measure of how I feel about a book.

I've technically stopped giving ratings for months at a time, but only because ratings confused me so much I just quit for a while. Maybe I'll join you in this at some point.

message 6: by Sabine (new)

Sabine With star ratings it is easier to get an overall view how people feel about a book (btw 3 stars is not a bad book). But I always also read the review, so I can decide for myself whether I'm still interested in the book. Everyone has different taste, so you shouldn't feel like you can't rate a book low.

But if you feel too pressured to rate a book then just don't do it ^^
If you still could and of course want to write a short review (like 1-3 sentences) for the books I would really appreciate it.

Emily Jane YES GIRL, YOU GO GIRL

message 8: by Yousef (new)

Yousef People should look at the average rating of the books 📚 instead of one person’s rating. Interesting post 👍🏽

message 9: by Madison (new)

Madison Grace GOOD FOR YOU!!! I always feel like it’s nice to give a book a rating but sometimes a rating doesn’t show my real feelings for a book!

message 10: by TMR (new)

TMR Totally understandable.

message 11: by cringekid (new)

cringekid I'm always just happy to hear your thoughts! As long as you keep reading I'm happy tbh

message 12: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Lennan I did the same thing recently! It makes things so much more enjoyable.

message 13: by Gabby (new)

Gabby I completely understand. I always rate my books based on how much i personally loved it if it's only 3 stars its still a good book! I just didn't love it. I've also seen people rate a book higher just because they felt bad

message 14: by Lucy (new)

Lucy No worries. I’ll just read your reviews instead. 👍

message 15: by romantikker (new)

romantikker I totally understand and support your decision!

message 19: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Will you be rating/reviewing books still? I love hearing your opinion

message 20: by Kaila Grace (new)

Kaila Grace I recently stopped rating books because I feel the same way! Hope all is well xxx

message 21: by Christina (new)

Christina I like this, but I just started rating books this year. Before, I wouldn't rate them, but I feel rating them makes me really think about the book and characters. Plus, I was younger and getting back into reading, and I didn't know what I liked/disliked about books. Rating makes me not just read a book and then forget it later. If that makes since. lol

message 22: by Nienke (new)

Nienke I never rate my books as well. Rating might drive people away from books they would've probably enjoyed! And I can't help but think about the fact that my taste in books also changes over the years. I think that reviews do help though, beause it shows the best and worst parts of a book. And what one person doesn't like may be something another person loves to see in books! So I hope you will write your reviews even though you won't rate your books anymore.

message 23: by M (new)

M Star ratings are dumb just because 1 person didn’t like the book doesn’t mean everybody shouldn’t read it

message 27: by Bernadette (new)

Bernadette Zoe don’t let anyone get to you it’s your opinion and how you feel about books you read. You just expressing yourself.

message 28: by Bernadette (new)

Bernadette Rating books is good for the mind and soul. Again don’t stop doing what you doing..😍😍😘😘📚📚 be blessed!!! Who gives a damm if you don’t like the books . Don’t care what they think and feel bad about it!!!😘😘😘💕❤️ They could go to the other side!!!

message 29: by Marissa (new)

Marissa Couldn't agree more! I still give star ratings, but I don't think they are accurate to my feelings AT ALL. Lol. I think talking about the book and expressing the love (or dislike) for it is enough!

message 30: by Bernadette (new)

Bernadette I agree with you ASparkOfSyd!!!👌
