I was skeptical till I wasn't. The poems are so short, the lines themselves short, that I wasn't sure where Gregory Orr could go. But these poems are simple rather than simplistic, with a real economy of the language that makes reading seen effortless. (Rarely achieved without great effort.) And even though I'm not crazy about Adam and Eve mythology, there are some beautiful new ways of looking at the world here.

So many short poems. So terse. So much meaning. So much about poetry itself, the way it heals you or at least makes sense of the world, reveals the rose that the rose obscures. I didn't think I'd like this, but I really, really do. I love that Gregory Orr is so different from verbose poets. He's a palate cleanser, but no, not just that. His poems are thoughtful and beautiful.
