With so many instances of betrayal, heartbreak, and anger between Lucinda and Michel, I feel the most satisfying way to end this book is for Lucinda to come into her powers and then walkaway from Michel. I don't know if that will be the case, but it feels like these two characters need time apart to become stronger and better people before they can continue any romance.

Another suitor arrives. It’s hard to believe that Lucinda loves Michel, when so much of the romance is shown through desire and “I’ll save you moments” and not much else. It’s undermined even more when she expresses attraction to other men and actually gets along with them. It feels like all she and Michel have is lust and frustration.

“I always thought that I wouldn't want to share Rick. He's my best friend, we do everything together, but my life has become so complicated lately, that I haven't wanted him to be pulled into the whirlpool that is devouring my world. Seeing him a little removed, in bliss with Celeste, someone I had a lot of respect for, had me surprisingly relieved. Who would have thought I could be so magnanimous?” Yikes!
