I’m glad I did the footwork of reading the earlier 20th century explorations of this subject first. At least read Dodds’ “The Greeks and the Irrational” before coming to Bremmer, as this work is a direct commentary and refutation of this earlier work as well as several other influential articles given in the bibliography.
