I find it hard to root for the lovers in this particular love story. It's the old "he's a former Gestapo agent who went into hiding and got away with it" bugaboo.

I guess it kind of reminds me of Pursuit, by Robert L. Fish - and it’s interesting that both novels have been filmed; high-concept plots that take ‘ridiculous’ situations and make a reader buy in for a while...as long as things don’t get too hard to swallow. What will happen to poor, ill-fated Terese. I think some memories will be coming back...

As love stories go, it’s difficult to predict where this one is heading. And that’s good, because I love a novel surprise.

Well, I like it - even if the premise is sort of high-concept hoary, and the whole novel could veer off the rails at any moment. A woman who was captured, questioned, and then tortured by the Gestapo during WW2 is, decades later, standing in front of one of her interrogators at a party; she had "therapeutic amnesia" treatment and doesn't know him. He - new fake ID - remembers her.
