Don't know why but it reminds me of the Merchant of Venice. Not in the plot, at least not yet anyway, but that one quote just summed up my thoughts of Merchant.

I don't know what happened but everyone randomly became hella bold, consenting to marriages they weren't offered, asking if people painted women nude, etc.
