The discussion of Shakespeare as a kind of gnostic magician/manipulator is making this book feel like conspiracy theory. Yes, plays and media tug at our emotions, but is it bad that the arts can offer us something to say about both the internal and external life, causing us to reflect on our selves and learn things? This world is influenced by gnosticism, but this book is giving it too much power over the world.
