I tried reading this in the omnibus format a year or two ago and couldn’t get into it. I think it just wasn’t the right time because this is more interesting now. Also have a doctors appointment in an hour and half (my first one in like seven years lol) so hopefully everything turns out alright.

Making this my next audiobook. Felt like returning to Jemisin’s writing. I really enjoy a lot of her stuff and don’t remember my feelings on this story much anymore

Again, while this book is good, I have just read better by Jemisin (which I would expect, given that this was the first book she tried to sell, making it one of her earliest). So it makes it hard to fall in love with this book, because I have just expierenced a more... expierenced Jemisin lol I hope this makes sense, because by no means is this a bad book. I am really enjoying it.

I read some more last night after my last update. Well this is good, Jemisin definitely grew as an author after this because it feels more removed from the characters than her later works (if that makes sense).

This is getting more interesting. The world building, while interesting and well developed, still hasn’t been fulled explained so it’s hard to follow the story in some aspects. I think I might have to look at some spoilers online to help me keep with the boom.

Still enjoying this but it isn’t as captivating as Jemisin’s later works. I reorganized my bookshelves yesterday and purged some books so my to-read shelf on goodreads is smaller. But I like the way my shelves more now.
