I bought this book in the early 1990s. In my misspent youth I attempted to read it but did not get any of the references. In respectable middle age and having worked in Los Angeles now for nearly 30 years I have immensely enjoyed the brief 1970's columns contained in this book from Los Angeles Times reporter Jack Smith. Lots of great information about Los Angeles in first half of the 20th century.
