Brooke Bolander's chapters are like a gorgeous fever dream

Under different circumstances, he and Beaumont might be pushed together because of the way they’re both forced to navigate the world—as outsiders. But whereas Danny might, in his everyday life, pass for a man attracted to women, Beaumont will always be judged by the color of his skin, even with a lifetime of service to his country and his city.

The city likes to pride itself on being a melting pot, but not everything melts the same way. Some people don’t like when it’s a woman who follows up on their case—let alone a woman as dark and curly-haired as her.

I got an ARC and this seems pretty promising so far. UF noir (new subgenre for me!) starring a PoC woman.
